Profile: Kensuke Ushio: Kensuke Ushio began his career as an electronic musician in December 2008 under the solo unit agraph. In 2014, he composed his first score for the TV anime “Ping Pong.” Drawing from various dance music contexts such as techno, house, and electro, he established his distinctive approach to soundtrack composition. He has since worked on numerous anime and live-action projects, including collaborations with directors Naoko Yamada and Masaaki Yuasa. His recent works include the TV series “Dandadan” and “Chi: About the Movement of the Earth,” the NHK special anime “Cocoon: Aru Natsu no Shojotachi yori,” and the score for “Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc.” In addition to anime, his work spans live-action films, commercial music, and fashion show soundtracks. Introduction: Makio Takashiro, a shy novelist, impulsively takes in her niece Asa Takumi, who lost her parents, at the funeral of her sister and brother-in-law. This unexpected start to living together completely changes Makio’s once-quiet daily life. Unaccustomed to living with others, she feels uneasy about sharing her life with 15-year-old Asa. Meanwhile, Asa, having lost her parents and her sense of belonging, experiences loneliness for the first time while encountering Makio’s way of life—so unlike her mother’s and far from what one would call “adult-like.” Makio, who struggles with social interaction and prefers solitude, and Asa, who is friendly and straightforward by nature. Though their personalities and values are completely different, the two begin an awkward life together, fumbling their way forward. A story of an age-gap cohabitation that begins tentatively, as the two navigate life in solitude together.
